Aren't there different species of clado?
Loads. But I doubt if there's any specific type which gets called a "marimo ball".

Subsequently, A. linnaei has been accommodated in the genus Cladophora in the Cladophorales and has been renamed Cladophora aegagropila (L.) Rabenhorst and Cl. sauteri (Nees ex Kütz.) Kütz. Extensive DNA research in 2002 returned the name to Aegagropila linnaei.
No, just to be picky jpappy, A. linnaei later renamed C.aegagropila. Either name I'm not sure that's what the OP's ball is. Java moss or other floating moss or algae can form a ball shape if it's constantly spinning in the filter return current. We need a better pic & I still might not be able to tell, AFAIK I haven't had any type of clado.
