it seems to build up every couple of days, and really slows the bubbles down, which in turn causes bubbles to connect and get larger, and nothing gets disolved. what is it? how do I stop it's reoccurance?
what is this white sludge in my co2 ladder?

this is diy, the jello bottle is to the left there. I do not have a gas seperator. my hoses are dry and I've never had any liquid syphon from the yeast bottle to the tank. there is only slight carbon build up in one 1" curve of the tubing...
This is what we were mentioning that requires cleaning of the ladder every so often. I wonder if your mix is producing more than usual though since you just set it up.
Is this your mix, or the new Hagen mix that they sent to you?
I honestly don't worry too much about the bubbles slowing down as long as they are moving. But if they combine too much in the process it is likely counter-productive.
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression the syphoning you want to prevent is from the water getting back to the CO2, not the other way around. I try to keep my CO2 above my tank wherever possible (without check-valves in place). If I'm wrong please let me know folks.

either way, I have no siphoning going on, this is a slow growth of sludge. I just pulled the ladder out to clean it, and was able to get the ladder all the way out of the tank without loosing much in the water. it's very thick, almost like lobster sauce. the remaining bit on the glass seemed very attractive to the otos and cherry barbs...
well you don't want liquid going from either one to the other, yeasty water in the tank is pretty gross. I keep the yeast bottle at or below the tank with a check valve so that tank water can't end up in the yeast bottle. I keep meaning to setup my gas seperator but I have a leak in it somewhere that kills my CO2 production completely and I havn't invested the time in remaking it. It may be that the sludge is airborne yeast or something like that. I think I am experiencing the same thing on the end of my airline feeding into the intake for my filter, and I've never had yeast water get into my tank. I expect the problem will go away whenever I get around to fixing/remaking my gas seperator.
from what I've seen, a DIY gas seperator for this setup would be an empty bottle inline with the other bottles? I don't see how this would remove yeast if it were airborn... except to maybe give it more time to fall out of the air.
Well my plan for mine is a bottle half full of water (doubles as a bubble counter) which would help strip out anything in the gas being produced.
My understanding was that it is a full bottle of water. Not sure what a half-full one would do...
