Can't see anything, pic is only like 1"x2" on my screen. Just taking a wild guess from your description... feather dusters / tubeworms?

Definitely gonna need better pics. Not much detail to pick out of those.
And I'd agree with Ace25, that looks very off. Being off level slightly isn't the end of the world (although it is still a potential failure point), but that looks off by quite a bit.
