Ok, since you have a 10 gallon what do you have in your tank? There are many types of Algae eaters out there that you can choose from. But it really depends also what you have in there. If you have agressive fish, probably wouldnt want to use ottos. Also, how old is your tank? does it have a sufficient Algae culture growing in there to help feed an algae eater?
But to give my choice of my favorite Algae eater, I would go with Shrimp. Either Cherry or Amano shrimp should do a fine job on most tanks. But do you have plants? Need a little bit more info before we can really properly give you advice for your tank.
At this point of nothing to base this on, I say the best algae eater is a scraper and regular water changes. Actually this is the best algae eater, you still have to do scrapings and water changes, this will help lower your algae but alot. I prefer the type of scraper with a metal razor blade. Does a fantastic job on hard algaes.
