I am thinking of buying a new camera and would like one that will take good pictures of my fish. Any advice or suggestions about what kind of camera or lense you use and your experience with it would be appreciated.
Nikon D50 is what I use. Although I must say that in a lot of cases the camera doesn't make the picture (sure it can help) the person who uses the right settings and equipment does. Don't go out and buy a dSLR like a nikon or cannon and expect to get a better picture then that of a cannon elph or nikon coolpix cause if you don't know how to use a camera well, you won't get a great picture.
I use a Nikon L11. It was only about 100 dollars, but it's a really good camera for the price. It can take really good close up shots if you know how to use it.
For those using SLRs, I'd be interested in feedback as to what type of lense and settings you're using. I have found that on auto-everything, my 350D wants to use a flash, which is a no-no with fish as I understand it. Force the flash off, and it has such a slow shutter speed that everything is blurry. I had better results on automatic raw setting ("P") and bumping the ISO up to 1600, but it's still too slow a shutter speed unless the fish is really still (good luck with that!). So my next try will be to use manual shutter speed to stop the action, no flash, and let the camera set the aperture. Is this the right approach? And does anyone have a good starting point for the shutter speed?
