There were these catfish at a LFS that looked similar in coloration to the pictus, but they had a dorsal fin that stuck straight up like most "shark" catfish. The only label on the tank read "Julii" or something similar, but trust me, these were NOT Coryadoras julii. However, there WERE some cories in the tank with them.

I can't seem to find a picture of them anywhere. They look similar to Synodontis multipunctatus as well, but . . . their dorsal fins were, once again, more erect and somewhat "detached" toward the back more like a silvertipped cat's fin would be.

Any ideas?

Nope, I know those guys VERY well. I don't keep them because I don't have a long enough tank, but I hand-feed juveniles tubifex worms at the store I work at.

These other fish had a similar dorsal fin, but were silver and spotted like a pictus.

No, it's not.

Man, I can't find these guys anywhere! And I'd like to know more about them to see if they're suitable for my tank.

Take the body of a pictus, shorten it a little and take a bit off the barbels, then add the fin of a columbian and you've got this fish.

Perhaps another Pim species? blochi more striped than spotted.

Many Synodontis species are pale w/ spots, typicaly with branched barbels.
