what type of crab are those? do they require land area? brackish water? They are sold in big buckets around flushing and china town in nyc as seafood. I am thinking about keeping 1 in a eclipse 12 and want to know the requirement. Any crab experts?:)

Thats a blue crab. Never thought about keeping them as pets, but they sure do taste good.

i live in flushing as well, so i know what your talking about. used to eat them but now not so much. and yeah, those are blue crabs, caught mostly in the Atlantic Ocean. they are marine animals and are wild caught at that. it would be hard to replicate the environment in which it was found. harder to feed or to supplement with addtional stuff. then again, i've never really thought of keeping them as pets because i know they would die after while in freshwater. you may ask around though, there may be a group of people doing this.

For what your planing on, the only difference maintenence wise between a freshy tank should be checking the salinity and having to mix the saltwater.

Those are definatly blue crabs and they are both female if you care

not sure how to raise them but can show ya how to eat them

i work at joes crab shack and know them well
