Hi Everyone. I am not really a newbie to aquariums. I have a 55 gallon community tank. I am putting a small 5 gallon in my kitchen. I was think of maybe 1 or 2 dwarf gourmis in it. But every where i look they tell me that they need a larger tank. I would like to know if i can put gourami's in it just a single or a pair or what else i could put in it? thanks for you help!

I would think one would be okay, if thats it. Maybe a few ghost shrimp for cleanup.
And a few plants.
A Red Sea Nano filter and a small Hagen HOB heater would be my choice for a tank that size(If you're interested in my opinion).

I would only go with one, 2 might fight in such a small tank. Ideally, a bigger tank would be better, but it wouldn't be too bad, assuming that is the only fish. BUT, a betta is a great idea, if you get a really pretty one, they are much more striking, and have much more personality than a gourami IMO  :)

It's a 5 gallon ecplise tank which already had the filter and the water actually stays warm due to the light I guess. Right now I am trying to get the ammonia and stuff right in it. For some reason the water that I put in it from my big tank went crazy when I put it in the little tank.

the water itself doesn't contain much of the needed bacteria, you are really only importing waste. If you can, steal a bit of your filter media from the main tank, and put it in the filter of the 5g (after you dechlorinate the water) and you should have a pretty much instant cycle, assuming you get the fish within a day or two

I think I would go with a betta, they really become interactive with you. But I have a honey gourami, he's very small and he just developed his adult colors, simply gorgeous. I have him in my 55 gallon community tank, but I can see having two of them in a 5 gallon, no problem. I just put up a post about algae that has a picture of him.

Take care,

Ok I have put a little piece of the filter media from the large tank into the small one. What about one snakeskin gourami would the tank be too small for one of those??

The water stays about 74 degress in the 5 gallon tank it must be ther filter that warms it the light has been off all day and still just as warm. :D
