I got a free 10g tank today, all equipment included and some fish (off Craigslist). The lady said it was a zebra danio, but I know for sure it is NOT! I can't tell exactly what he is, and it seems like maybe some of his colors might be faded. She told me he was 2 years old. She also told me he lost all his fins do to old age, but I think there might be something wrong with him. It doesn't look like fin rot to me, it looks more like he got in a fight, but what do you guys think?

Also, the other 4 tetras in the pictures I already know what they are (The glow lights and neons)

Here is a video of him swimming, I think he's swimming a little weird. (sorry for the crappy video!)

Fish do not lose fins with age (unlike men and hair). Looks like maybe a fight.

PS--Looks like a Pristella, but not 100% sure, but I am sure it is not a Columbian. Notice the "red streak" at the eye.

:iagree:That's what I was thinking. A fight.

Also, if its stressed out, how can I make it get better, just clean water and good water changes? Should I add anything to the water to prevent fin rot or lower stress? They did go through the stress of moving (even if it was a short distance), and were probably already stressed before hand. The lady I got them from said he had been like that for a while.

I'm also thinking columbian tetra. I've read they are fin nippers, are they really? Or is it only if they are in small groups (much like tiger barbs and serpae tetrs)?

Perhaps Buenos Aires Tetra? That one has the red over its eye and so does my tetra. (Sorry, double post!)

He almost looks like a really banged up Hyphessobrycon bentosi. Similar coloring and body shape. Smaller than colombians or bleeding hearts (he seems small to me). My guess is he had sever finrot due to water quality issues and it didn't grow back completely/is in the process of growing back.

Edit: beat me to the punch. Yes, I think he's a white tip rosy tetra. PetSmart has that name with the above scientific name, but looking at the links he's probably actually an Ornate.

I would lean towards the rosy tetra just because it has black on its dorsal fin and so does my tetra (although hard to really see in the pictures). Or the black could just be damaged fins.

Is there anything I can or should do to make him better?
