Just starting a marine tank after not having one for a couple of years.. Im going for inverts again and just a couple of fish. what sand is best to use. as its all changed in the last couple of years. thanks
Southdown from Home Depot is supposed to be the Holy Grail of sands but it's impossible to find. I just bought 100lbs of finer than sugar silica play sand from Mendard's. No diatom problems after 9 months (of course that could change in a day) and it only cost me $4.
I bought aragonite sand for 2 inches from the LFS. It is nice colour and also adds organisms also I think. Supposed to be cleaned but I am not sure , mine seemed to have some junk in it.
Was costly. At the moment my macro algaes have discovered it and are rooting into it. So when I harvest the macros seems I make a little mess. I do notice some life in the sand. Maybe it came from the live rock.
