Octagon All Glass Aquarium i picked up for $50 with stand/light/stuff. 20" flat to flat and a 69" circumference? I'm going to make the new home for my Yellow Lab.

A quick calc that I did shows slightly more than 1.5 gallons per inch of vertical so if its 18 inches tall it would come out to about 27 gallons. You will need to measure the real height to know the answer. If it doesn't make sense get back to me but I think you will find its pretty darned close.

I'm sorry it is a hex not an octagon. it is 26 inches high and each flat is 11" inches. I got a little excited yesterday and goofed. I was also wondering if RUF would be a good idea for a cichlid tank. It came with a plate.

All my cichlid tanks have RUGF.

Using a hex of 11" and 26" tall I get about 35 gallons. I did not attempt to subtract out the glass thickness and you need to figure you won't fill it to overflowing so you will probably need about 32 gallons minus the amount that you put in it in gravel. I'll bet that thing will look great being so tall compared to its other dimensions. It would be sort of a short column shape.

I don't think that your tank will make a good home for yellow labs.

I suggest that you rethink the stocking, maybe a pair of angles and some other fish for a nice SA tank.
