When my 10 gallon is ready I am probably gonna put a beta and 2 cory's into it. Is there any other fish you could suggest

Number 1 thing is get more cories......I would get 2 more of the same type you already have they like to be in schools and will be much more active and comfortable with 3 or more of the SAME type.

After you add those you could add a very small schooling fish. This is my set-up exactly. I have a Betta in a 10 Gallon, Densely Planted...sand substrate. Oh yeah...forgot to mention ...cories should be put in with a sand substrate....if you use gravel their barbels will be damaged and it is not good for their overall health. I like the look of sand anyways.

Anyways I have the Beta, 5 Panda Cories and 4 Harlequin Rasboras. I highly reccomend Harlequin Rasboras.....nice small, active schooling fish that will do well with the cories and the Beta.

i agree about keeping 3 or more cories, although you could get three cories that look similar but are different species, such as the panda and an adolfoi or skunk. You should also give the cories a lot of hiding places.

WIth a betta, you are looking for a fish without colorful finage to attract the betta's biting. Also you don't want fish that are nippy to the betta. There are a lot of threads on this, if you use the search feature it will pull up lots of results. And my sig has some and I have kept mollies with them as well. Just take caution, a betta could act up, and you need to keep an eye on things in the beginning.

I have heard 6 is needed for schooling fish. I have always had 4 cories, and then the loaches kind of join into the school. They all seem healthy and happy.

I don't think sand is a necessity, if that is something you're not into. Although I have read that it is better for loaches' barbles- and I'd suppose other's. Mine seem no worse for the wear with gravel. It is smooth medium sized gravel.

If you are concerned about yo

ur bioload, you can go with pygmy cories.
