I picked up some ammonia today from the store, according to the ingredients it contains "Ammonium Hydroxide and Surfactant". Is that pure enough or does the "Surfactant" make it un-usable for tank cycling? Thanks!

I think thats exactly what you need.... I wish I could find some :(

this is my 1000th post lol.... didnt even realize.

i thought you wanted the kind without surfactants?

i could be wrong.
i just use fish food.

uh-oh, two different answers. Which is it?

I just found it at Fred Meyer for $1. They had clear and lemon so of course I got lemon ;)

hah.. well you definitely dont want the lemon kind.

shake the bottle.. if it's bubbly/foamy at the top, then it's the wrong stuff.

Try and find the goldex brand, in canada I've seen it at canadian tire and walmart and other stores like this.

:iagree:

If you have an Ace Hardware near you you can get it there.."Janitorial Strength Formula" is what it says on the label

Crap, I shook it and it's definitely foamy at the top. Ah well, time to take it back and look elsewhere.

There are ace hardwares around so it should be easy to find. I mean, c'mon, this is Seattle, pure ammonia has got to be around.

I've been using the Wal-Mart brand (97 cents/bottle). It's just ammonia and water, and there's no foaming when I shake it!
