I use a 20 watt 24" 10000K fluorecent bulb. I have live plants in there as well. It's a super daylight bulb. I think I paid like $25 for it.

40watts of normal fluorescent lighting over my 66 gallon malawi tank (unsure of the kelvin rating... the fixture came with the tank). Lights are on for a total of 5-10 minutes (during feeding time and misc viewing times).
220 watts of CF lighting over my 70 gallon plant tank (kelvin rating of 6700k). Lights are on from 9AM to 9PM daily.
55 watts of CF lighting over my 15 gallon plant tank (kelvin rating of 10000k). Lights are also on from 9AM to 9PM daily.
Soon to be 36 watts of overdriven CF lighting over my 20 gallon bowfront plant tank (with a kelvin rating of 6700k). Lights will also be on from 9AM to 9PM daily.

The 220 watts of CF lighting I got my www.ahsupply.com. Highly recommended place to shop for CF fixtures and bulbs. The other CF fixtures I got were for cheap from friends (both are made by oceanic).
