What was your first car? What would you choose as a first car for a teen?

My first car was a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire.. When i first got it i wasnt to excited, but the car grew on me.. i got it for 1700, ~170k miles.. i put 25k miles on it because of school and it had great gas mileage. Was a nice little car, with the 2 doors..

Now i have a 2003 Subaru Legacy, awd, and is amazing :). WHen you get a car, always try to get a lower price.. the sunfire i had was posted as 2200, and i got it down to 1700. was worth it.

93 Eclipse :) Was a 1gb. I wanted the 1ga cause of the flippy headlights (you can make them wink lol). Although the first car I drove more than in a parking lot was a 03 evo 8 :) First time driving stick too... On a **** racing clutch... not fun :(
But now I have a sunfire and it gets really good gas mileage.

The funny thing is is that insurance where I live is more expensive for the sunfire than the evo :/ **** fancy side window airbags

My dad, uncle, grandpa, and cousin all got to drive nascars on the track. My cousin got over 150mph and it was his first time ever driving stick.

My mom had a sunfire when her car was being worked on and she did not like it at all.

I have a job interview later today. Hopefully it goes well and I can get my license. Idk what car I would drive tho. Might go get a used car or my mom might get a new car for herself. We will have to see what happens.

95 Eclipse Before & After. This is my other hobby sometimes but I don't care for it much these days.

Paid for a 03 mustang myself in 06, 7 grand back then. Wish I had known the economy was crap, would of sunk a lot of money and gone into some debt for a far better fuel efficient car instead. Still have the stang, now worth 4k and not worth selling. Oh well...

So get something in your budget with the best fuel use, at least I would. Gas was almost 4.50 this year...$200 a month on gas when I don't drive too far is a massive pain...

I dont know if i posted it yet in this thread, but my new budget is $4k to $6k. My parents couldnt find anything they liked for me in good condition for the price. The main thing is the miles. Most used cars around us until you get up to about $8k have about 120k miles on them. My mom wont let me get anything over 100. But yet her 6yr old car (bought new in 06) has 100k miles on it. So what is she expecting out of cars older than hers?

My first car was a 1972 chevelle with a 350 small block in it. Was not very economical but yeah I looked cool. I would go with a taurus as well. very spacious, good power and even better mileage.

My first car was a beige 4-door 74 chevy malibu...in 1983...for ~$1500 ( I think we paid too much!) Good solid car, but not very relevant today.

I sold a 99 Taurus in good condition with ~70K miles in 2008 for $3200, was asking $3500. Transmission had been rebuilt under warranty. Almost wished I had kept it.

Jetta Mark IV series...99-04 and early 05. We bought an 05 Mk IV in 2008. It's needed a water pump, fan, brakes and new tires in 4 years and over 50K miles. It has the same basic 2.0l that VW/Audi has been using for many years. We call it the Snow Monster - we run Bridgestone Blizzaks from ~ 1 Nov-1 March and it goes wherever you point it. A 99-03 might be in your price range.

Any car will need oil changes, brakes, tires and other wear items. Fresh brakes and tires on a 100K car may be a lot better deal than a 70K car that needs tires and brakes. Also check the insurance cost on a car...some may be surprisingly more than you think...even for different versions of the same car.

Got my mom to look at ford rangers. My dad kept pushing an f150 but my mom doesnt want me in a big truck. I think a big truck would be cool, but not good for me. Bad mileage and harder to drive. But I listed a few smaller trucks and my parents like ford, so she looked at a ranger. Now she thinks that it would be a good match for me and we found a couple near us that look like they are in very good condition with reasonable miles and price. There is an 01 and an 04. Both stepside extended cab. My mom decided the extended cab is a must have to put stuff back in while there is someone in the passenger seat. We pulled up next to one and she liked it. Insurance will be cheaper on the 01 because it is over 10yrs. We will see what happens. We will probably go look at one of them and go from there. We might like it and make an offer. We might look around at other ones. If all else fails, we go look for a normal car or my mom gets a new car.

My first was a 99 ford taurus. I had to sell it after it failed inspection in March after I used it for less than a year because the bottom was very rusted out and not worth the cost of fixing. I loved that thing though.
Now I have a 99 saturn that I bought for 300 bucks off of my grandmother because she bought a new car. Everytime I try to accelerate I die a little inside, because it's nowhere near how my taurus felt.

I really wanted either a ranger or a jetta. The rangers get pretty good gas milage, as far as trucks go.... Certainly more than an F150
