My LFS usually sell larger plecos and oscars for around $10-$15. They will not pay much for them because they have people trying to return them on a daily basis. Just for an example my buddy bought an 11" sailfin for $10 from a lady trying to get store credit, they were only gonna give her $5 for it. Good luck trying to sell them, but you shouldn't expect to get much.

it really depends on your location most of the LFS around here get between 20 and 40 for 11" plus oscars. but you may only get 5-10 in store credit so i guess its all about what u wanna do.

 I agree. One LFS here had a 10" oscar for sale for $55 but I know the guy who traded him & he got $15 credit in feeders. Down side is you never know what kind of 'home' he'll end up in !?! See if you can find a fellow hobbyist who can take him in if possible. BTW the store put him in a 20gl. tank. :rant2:

The price you can get will also depend on the condition and coloration of the fish.

My LFS recently added two oscars to their "monster" tank (scary scary tank with equally scary stories behind some of the fish). Both are about 10-12", but one's being offered at twice the sale price of the other because it's got great color, no scars, and the owner brought photographic evidence of the size and condition of the tank it was kept in. The other they're just hoping to find a home for, gave the owner nothing for it, because it's dully colored and has some scarring.

I sold two 8-9 inch oscars (albino and black tiger) to one of my lfs and got like 10 bucks a piece... Usually you will get right around what they would sell a small or medium one for.

My lfs is more then willing to take in any fish but will not give anything in return..no store credit, no fish credit, no nothing but they are willing to keep the profit for themselves.

Unfortunately where I am I don't have too many choices.

While it's frustrating as a fish owner, I really can't fault any LFS that doesn't give store credit for returned fish as it's quite a gamble for them. They can't be sure they can move the fish quickly and meanwhile it's taking upup valuable tank space and food. Acclimating a fish to their tanks also takes time and runs the risk of a fish death or disease breakout from the stress.
