What does everyone else feed their royal gramma? Flake or live food? I like the idea of feeding live food rather than flake simply because it feels more natural. Does anyone strictly feed live food, and if so do you raise your own brine shrimp?

I have all of my fish on a home made diet. It's squid, octopus, cuttlefish, scallop, mussel, and seaweed. I puree it lightly in a blender with a vitamin supplement and froze it in an ice cube tray. I then use a razor to slice bits off (I do several at a time and put them in a tupperware container back in the freezer) and just thaw it out in a cup of aquarium water when I'm ready to feed them. They love it.

WOW thats pretty impressive! I might even eat that! Your "ice-cube-delight really puts my flake food to shame. The gramma is still pretty timid and doesn't come out of the rocks when I feed the clowns. I'm not even sure he would stand a chance either, those clowns are like vacuum cleaners. I have been using a micropipeter to squirt some food through the rocks for him. Though I think he would rather be a guest at your table!

thanks for the insite

Yeah, I found a package that has all of those items that I listed (minus the seaweed and vitamins) at a Korean market. It's a little package in the frozen seafood section. $3.00 for 1 pound, which makes almost a month's worth of food for my fish, probably more for your's. It's a little more expensive than flake, a little more work, but much more worth it.

I had a blue/green reef chromis that was silver when I got it, after feeding it my concoction, it changed to the blue/green that it's supposed to be. :D

It's good for my scavengers too, the crabs and shrimp have a better time with chunks of meat at the bottom as opposed to flakes.
