I agree thats its a hujeta gar. If you look at the mouth it should be flatter towards the end. This forms a membrane which helps it breath ( if neccesary) in oxygen deprived water. These fish can be found in small groups of 3-5 in the wild but being solo wont bother the fish. They dont grow too large but they should have at least 55gals or larger with a lid because they are exellent jumpers. Try to get him to eat pellets because feeding him feeder fish ( even properly maintained feeder fish) will result in a build up of fat and a lack of vitamin B1. Feeder fish contain thiminase which depleads vitamin B1. Ive done a lot of research of acceptable live foods and this species of gar LOL :)

It's been a month i fed all my fishes (before i bought hujeta) Feeder fish.. and this month i stop it because i read on internet they said feeder fish could bring disease to my fishes.. and then i start feeding them pallets.. the problem is only my alligator gar eat the pallets but my arowana and the others won't.. even though i've tried to not feed them for 4 days (actually it's vacation :P) and they look very hungry but the one that eat it is only my oscar and alligator gar.. and the next day i bought a pack of ghost shrimp for my arowana which is their favourite food. Should i continue feeding all my Monster feeder fish ? because my brother call me cruel whenever i feed them feeder fish -.-"
I Appreciate your reply. Tq !

+1 for commercially bred feeders not being the best option. When they get shipped to stores, they sometimes have hitch hikers like tadpoles, crays, beetles, larva, and plants (once we got a couple tilapia fingerlings.) Who knows what else they can come with that we can't see.

It sucks, but you could buy a 75g and stock it with a sustainable population of guppies. Along with being safer, they'll be more nutritious than feeders if you feed them good food.

Have you tried frozen minnows?

Haha , my mom have an 75g aquarium with variety of guppies. You gotta be kidding me to own another 75g of guppies to feed my fishes she'll definitely dying force me not to feed them with guppies. (Aww.. Poor beautiful mother of nature Guppies xD)
Frozen minnows ? hmm.. never heard it.. but i tried Raw shrimp i get it from market.. the raw shrimp just sink and my arowana just look at it and just go away -.-' (what an silly arowana) i tried to stick it with string , wooden stick and much more.. but they still won't eat.. Thanks to my Catfish he clean the shrimp outta the ground.. I'm finding food that would float so my silly arowana will eat it -.-' I wouldn't try Mealworm/Superworm because everytime my arowana eat them, they will spit white thing.. and THOUSAND OF ANT always HUNT MY MEALWORM ! any way to stop the ant from getting my mealworm ? I would try with mealworm but do you know how to make it away from the ants ? and why do they spit white stuff whenever they eat it ?
I Appreciate your reply :) Tq Mate !

At least you tried getting them to pellets. You should deffinately keep trying. You could stop feeding them for a week ( dont worry theyll be fine) then try pellets again. Once the fish realize that the pellets are food then they will start to eat it.

Thanks for your advise :)
This morning i just feed them pellets (just to train my arowana to eat pellets) and then i try Market Shrimp again like yesterday and it definitely eat it ! I've seen my arowana eat the pellets but rare (stick pallet the one like hikari but other brand).. I'll keep training them to eat pellets due to easy to keep and many more.. Thanks for your reply :)

Boq, that is pellets, spell check.

I suggest getting a kiddie pool and mass breading Endlers. You can aslo contact Eastren Aquatics. Great feeders no disease.

Thanks for your spelling check.. My bad.
Thanks for your advise but i would like to stick with pellets and market shrimp.. maybe when my arowanas grow larger a bit i would stick with feeder fish.
