When will my Kribs breed

Well the eggs have now disappeared and my wife thought she saw the female eating them. However the pair are still defending the area and I have spotted the female digging below the original nesting site but I cannot see clearly into that area. That at least seems to be the centre of activity. Could they have moved the eggs or have they started the wiggling stage and dropped to the substrate or have they gone for good. This is their first attempt so that wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks
Kieran

I've never seen krib eggs, but apisto eggs should be pink or red. White eggs indicate non-viable, or fungused eggs. If that happens the female usually eats the eggs and tries again in a few weeks.

Good Luck

Nah my krib's eggs were white. Or a creamy color. I think clear means unfertalized... i'm not sure... because usually the female will have taken them away by the time i saw them.

Dont be suprised if kribs put the babies in thier mouths. Both the male and female will move the fry around in thier mouths if they want to.

If the parents are still gaurding thier area theres a good chance there are still some babies. Give it a week to see if the parents bring them out :D

Very cool. My cac had fry in a little cave in some bogwood. When they would poke their heads up, she would spit the babies end over end into the cave one at a time. If she looks like she's chewing bubble gum watch her. she might me holding a baby.

Thanks for your replies. Well they are still defending the area so I guess they have just moved them to the pit they have created amongst the bogwood and rock at the bottom. I can't see in to be sure. They have never really been that aggressive even letting fish get to within 6 inches of the eggs but I guess thats because the tank is heavily planted and full of wood and java rock. The male even wanders off from time to time and the female even makes quick forays to the other end of the tank but she returns quite quickly.

Thanks
Kieran

Well this morning about 40 fry appeared beside the parents. Its amazing how small they are and its such a thrill to watch them. How long till they are big enough to look after themselves.

Thanks
Kieran

I'm not home right now, but when I get there and get things unloaded from car and a few min to remember, i'll post a link to a short page about breeding kribs,
I belive I have a piar getting ready to spawn, and what I have found realy puts them in the mood, is nightcrawlers, I just take a few mins and cut one up into little pieces tiny enough for them to eat, this really seems to get them fired up. Krib eggs normally take 2-3 days to hatch and in most cases the eggs will places on the celing of a cave, but this is not always the case.
I'll try to remember that link later this after noon.

Your know you're a in trouble when you bring home a turkey baster, some yeast, and a package of pillow stuffing and your girlfriend doesn't even ask what they're for.
I dont mean to get off the sub, in this post, but I was just sitting here LMAO at this , too funny!!!
