Where do you buy your bettas?

Unfortunately, I don't have a test for nitrate, but I think my levels were zero because it was still too early. Last night, I had a low nitrIte level, but still no ammonia (?). I regret the test kit I bought... it uses powders instead of drops, takes forever, and I don't trust it. However, I really can't afford to buy a nice master test kit at this point, so I'm trying to make do. :(

My tap water is quite basic with a pH of ~7.6. Are there any home remedies for this, or do I have to go spend more money on a pH neutralizer? *sigh*

I wouldn't worry about your pH unless your plans are for breeding. Until you can get a good liquid test kit and the tank finishes a cycle, do frequent water changes and use a good dechlor like Prime.
