Where do you buy your bettas?

I swear by Petland Discounts I live in the SI, NY area and have gotten very good bettas and fish in general from their local stores. I posted a pic of my latest purchase check out Meet Mr. Pips post and good luck!

Hey wow... there are a couple of petlands within a few miles of me! I didn't even know!

How are their prices on accessories? I need to buy filters, food, heater, test strips, etc...

For anyone interested, I just set up my little tank! Unfortnately, I'm currently missing a fluorescent bulb (it's in the mail), so there's a lot of glare.

I might shuffle the plants around a bit, but I'm quite happy with the chunk of driftwood I found. :) I bought a stick, boiled it, and stuck it in a fish tank... how silly is that?? haha

Today is day 1 of cycling. I don't have any pure ammonia, so I'm going with the fish food method. Sorta gross, but I'm hoping it will work. I'll post a new pic once I get that light bulb!

Beware, Pet... does not sell real halfmoons, only deltas marked up. Real halfmoons have to have 180 degrees and I ahve never seen one at the big box store myself.

not true. yes they sell deltas, but they also sell halfmoons. Maybe it depends on the location as far as what stock they get in, but I have seen full halfmoons at my local petco.

I looked at their stock today -

they had a gazillion red and blue veil tails, a couple of crowntails, a few females, and one or two deltas marked as half-moons. In fact, I looked around at three different stores today, and the only fish I liked was on hold for someone already.

:/ maybe I'll have to just bite the bullet and order. I'm thinking that's the only way I'll get what I have in mind. (gosh, I'm picky!) :p

There are generally betta fish associations/breeders everywhere (just type in "betta breeders in [blank]") on your search browser. If this doesn't work you can always just keep on checking your local pet stores.
Pet stores with high consumerism rates such as PetSmarts and Petco's will get 30 (+/-) new male bettas from local breeders and 15 (+/-) new female bettas from local breeders per week.
Just keep trying, if you are in such dire need. I am breeding an HM (yes, a real HM :D) yellow MG right now, so if I get any male bettas that look like the one you want I would be glad to send you one (probably in the summertime though, as the rest of my spawns are reds and ... yeah. They are all some kind of red right now :P).
Good luck & keep us posted :)
Remember to upload some pics of the 'lil beaut when you get him! :)

have you tried asking a local pet store to order the color and kind of betta you want? if you have a mom and pop fish store they are really helpful at ordering something if you ask.

I got mine at Wal-Mart. *L* I don't know what type of budget you are working on, but you might try bettatalk.com She is a breeder, has been doing it for years, her shipping is pretty reasonable, and she has some betta's to die for.

I'm actually going to break my own rules and go to WAL*MART today (I'm morally opposed ;)) because I need an assortment of junk. However, I can't bring a fish home for another few weeks, so I'd just be getting a feel for their prices and selection. As per bettatalk, I'm looking around her site, and she doesn't advertise any bettas for sale- just some supplies. I think she's been doing some work as an actress or something and has put breeding on hold for a while. If I'm wrong, could you please provide a link to the page in her site where she sells bettas?

Thanks. :)

I hadn't thought of that... but to be honest, many Long Islanders intimidate me (I'm a west coast girl), and most don't seem too keen on favors and special requests for strangers. I might try, but I'm scared to.
