I'm trying to research my first salty tank and i was wondering where could i find some "cookie cutter plans" for stocking a 55 gallon. I would like to see a few different ideas, Fowlr, reef, or planted.

Based on what I've seen a million times over, it always starts with a yellow tang.. Everything else is up to you.

i guess i'm looking at how many fish of a certain size can a have in a 55 gallon tank. Most of the fish i like are 2-4". Clown, cardinal, shrimp goby, dotty back, chalk bass, Valentine toby.

Unfortunately, you won't get any exact specifications like you are looking for. I hesitate to even say how many fish I would think would go in there. You will be better served to look at the fish available, make educated decisions about them, and look at the number of fish many people have in similar sized tanks with similar filtration setups, etc. I'm not being stingy, but rather I don't want to point you into the wrong mindset immediately out of the proverbial door. Also look carefully at the fish you are wanting and not only their compatibilities with each other, but with potential invertebrates you will almost inevitably want in the future.

Edit: To clarify, you will find specifications, but I don't consider them to be well-advised. Custom tailor your fish population to your tank, its capabilities, and your tastes.

The most important factor is stocking saltwater fish is the individual personalities of the fish. I've seen two nearly identical fish be completely opposite when it comes to who and what they will ignore in a tank. Some are angels, some are devils.. Stocking a salt tank is more about managing personality conflicts than numbers. Sadly, that comes down to trial and error a lot of times.
