Where to find Multifasciatus?

Hey everyone,
I've been reading quite a bit and posting here and there on the multifasciatus cichlids. They seem to be extremely interesting and quite easy to take care of as well as good breeders if the water quality is good. I'd love to buy a few to start a tank, but they are SO HARD to find in my area. I live in Western Maryland, and although there are about four major LFSs, no one seems to carry them. Several had never even heard of them or the term "shelldweller." Those that had heard of them, have NEVER carried them.

Does anyone know of any good online sources that are NOT expensive, even on shipping? Keep in mind, I'm a college student at a local college, money isn't exactly flowing from my wallet, lol. I hate to sound cheap, but hey! I'd even be willing to buy from someone if they have fish or fry in good health. I am looking into the LFSs to see if anyone can get them in, but I don't want to pay out the teeth to them either. Besides, they already look at me like I'm crazy, I don't need to pay them for it, LOL!! Thanx a million!!!

Mickeys pets in truckee califonia has them all the time. I thought they looked pretty nice and i don;t think they get too big. try dr. forster & smith i think there website is www.liveaquaria.com (i think). If they dont have them, sometimes they will do the legwork and find them. this my be something where you need to find a friend who wants to order fish too, there is a minimum charge for shipping

Post under the wanted section on this site, or on www.cichlid-forum.com . Theres a chance people will have some fry to get rid of, they are probably the most common shellie

See if you have a local aquarium club. We have multies sold at our club auctions pretty regularly and it's dirt cheap. I bought 6 of them for $5 at one meeting.
