I got the paradise fish a few days ago, and i threw it into my 18g. but, it doesnt seem happy, just hanging at the top, most of the time. its slightly larger than my leopard danios, and they are full grown. the three big fish dont bother it, but, i think it may feel intimidated.
my question is, should i put it into my 29g where there are mostly tetras and guppies? at least until it grows just a little bit.

some fish are just shy. this is a gourami paradise fish, eh? this is what Drsfostersmith.com says about it.

"The Blue Paradise requires a larger aquarium, at least 30 gallons, with lots of hiding places for the female. It will not eat plants, but because of its active courtship and mock battles between tank mates, only very hardy vegetation is advised. The Blue Paradise is a territorial fish that will defend its area from its tank mates. For this reason, it should only be kept with other large, semi-aggressive fish. It will also eat smaller tank mates. Adult males should be kept one per aquarium, as they fight as fiercely as Bettas."

i know that my pearl gourami acts like your paradise fish. very tame. sits around the top and doesn't do too much.

i'd give your paradise some time to get comfortable, give it some hidingplaces and i think you'll be happy.

hey, thanx for the reply; unfortunaly, i DID move it to the 29, at least for a bit. i know the severum was a good 6 times bigger than it, and the convict 4. so, i thought it best to let it grow some in the 29. i noticed that it's fins were beat up a little, and they were not like that yesterday.
i DO know they are aggressive, the tank has much cover with fairly tough plants. this i am not worried about. my choices were to leav it in the 18 and get picked on, or move it to the 29, where it might do damage to the other fish.

but, again, thank you for responding.

I have a zebra danio that always stays at the top of the tank too. he has been doing it for over 3 weeks and doesn't seem to be sick at all. Alll of the other fish are much lower in the tank. Sometimes there is a fish that likes the top of the water. I would keep him in the original tank.

how many zebra danios do you have? they are a schooling fish so they get lonely if they don't have some mates to pal around with. i had a divider in my 20 gallon with 4 zebras. they would jump over it sometimes and when there was just one left on a particular side, he'd act like you described...but they are VERY active when you have 4 or so!
