There are two aquariums that i'm interested in buying, but I need some advice.

Option A: 120 gal, 60" long, 24" tall, 18" wide. it comes with two Eheim canister filters, one is model #2026, and the other Eheim is similar, but he doesn't know the model number. standard hood/lighting, python.
$400

Option B: 135 gal, 6'1" long, 23-24" tall, 18" wide. NO FILTERS. glass top with standard lights.
$250

of course i want the bigger tank, but they're similar enough that i don't mind if the smaller one ends up being cheaper. the big difference here is the 135g doesn't come with filters. Could i get enough filtration for the 135g out of $150?

Two AC 110s for $55 each.

Each is supposed to be good for 110 gallons, so if that's at all accurate, you're over filtering by a fair bit. Or you do one AC 110 and one AC 70 or Fluval C4. They're a bit less expensive, and both rated for 55 gallons, so you'd still be good for filtration, I'd imagine. All three of those filters are HOB, if that matters to you. I don't know enough to know if a canister is substantially better.

thanks for that link! at that price, i could buy 3 and have one in a closet waiting for a running one to die. :thm:

i looked into canisters a bit, and they all seem waaaay more expensive than HOB. I've never had a canister before, so i guess i can't miss what i've never had.

also, the 135g guy said "Has end splash panels n glass center brace also. Oceanic tank." can i please get a simple translation of this?

take the length any day....

it would be nice to be able to say i can swim in my fish tank... i'm so friggin jittery right now.

i guess i'll need a heater or 2, also. any suggestions while i search amazon?

Duh. I don't know if the edit here will make any difference to your planning, but the AC 70 and C4 are rated for 70 gallons. I had a brain fart, and gave the size of my tank instead of their ratings, because I looked at both before going with the constant outpouring of AC 70 love.

with a tank that large, seems like a sump would be the way to go anyway. that way you can keep all your heaters out of the tank and have as much filtration power as you want. I'm sure there's an ugly used 55 for cheap or free somewhere. in any case, I'd get the tank without the filters. a used filter isn't always useful, and is usually a lot of work to clean up.
