Which 100+ gal tank should I buy?

yeah, i should just leave the tigers in my bedroom. about the landlord, i misunderstood that whole situation. The lady i was referring to isn't the landlord, it's the current tenant, my girlfriend's friend, who we're moving in with( this house is sick, btw, and we get the master bed and bath. score!) and she was being sarcastic, but i didn't catch the sarcasm when my gf relayed the message over text. also, for a stand, i may go with the cinder block method since i hate the idea of 1000+ lbs sitting on an old wooden stand of which i don't know the history.

Yeah. A lot of cues are lost via text/email. Good score!

I'm looking at building a new stand, too, because I just have this niggling little fear that the MDF my current stand is made of is starting to fail. I have nothing to indicate that that's true, but still, the doubt's there.

ALRIGHT!!! i've got it in the garage on the level floor full of water. got it filled, now i'm waiting for a bit, but no leaks so far :thm:

note to self: take tank pics like you take fishing trip pics. stand behind your prize so it looks bigger and you look smaller. i need to retake this lol... my legs are way out in front and make it look like a 75 gal... and my butt got wet.

so far for this tank, i have:

AquaClear 110 Aquarium Power Filter - for 60 to 110 Gallon
Emperor 400 Pro Series Bio-wheel Power Filter - Up to 90 gallon, Rite Size "E"
Eheim Jager Submersible Aquarium Heater 300 watt

I'll need some lights and a powerhead... but these will have to wait for my fish budget to build back up =(

also, i'm thinking about drilling it for a sump

Probably don't really need to say it, but make sure it's not tempered glass before you get to work with the drill. There should be a sticker somewhere, provided it wasn't removed, that indicates that the glass is tempered. If it is, or if you don't want to go through the hassle of drilling, there's always the HOB overflow option.

the HOB overflow option.

this scares me a bit, but i'm starting to understand it more. float switches will put my mind at ease :)

I'm considering converting my "spare" 55 into a sump, and since my tanks are tempered glass, I'd *have* to use the HOB overflow. So, when I get to that stage of the project, what I'll do is figure out how much water will drain out of the overflow, and then make sure the sump has more than that capacity available to minimize any leakage.
