I am trying to decide which brand of salt to use for my aquarium. Do you recomend using instant ocean, red sea, oceanic, coral life, or some other brand that I have not listed. I have heard that instant ocean is popular, but my LFS says that they no longer carry it, because customers complained that it clouded up the water too much and took too long to clear up.

Thanks for your help,
Thresa

I've used IO since I started. I've never had a problem with it clouding the water, and would suspect that anyone who does have a problem with it doesn't pre-mix thier water before adding it to the tank.

reef crystals is a good brand of salt, it has a higher mineral level than most other salts so it is good for reef tanks

I started out with Instant Ocean in the past, and Im using it again since starting back up.
Instant ocean is definitely the most popular salt by far..

I use SeaChem reef salt, Just because the guy before me used it, and it works just fine.

I used IO for years, then decided to try Reef Crystals to see if it reduced how much calcium I needed to dose. Little difference, as far as I can tell. I think the next bucket will be IO again.

What'd ya pay for the Reef Crystals?
I just sent the husband to pick me up a bucket and it was $80!! I thought I was going to switch over from IO, but maybe not...
That's a $30 difference between the two buckets- the regular IO was "just" $50!

And I'm now thinking I'm nuts for setting up the second 90g as FOWLR.
Jeez!

I think it was about $60 for me. No matter what, I don't think it's worth the extra expense, since I am still dumping a lot of kalk and B-ionic into the tank (reactor still in limbo).
