We are stocking a 55 gallon tank. We have one Torquise Severum about 1 inch long (baby), two firemouths that we will transfer when Severum gets big enough, now what else? We were thinking a Jurpari, but someone told us they constantly tear up your tank, maybe an angel, of this size fish how many more can I put in. One person told us it is better to overstock a little, they are less agressive if there is no territory to fight over, but this doesn't sound true. What is everyones opinion. Oh we don't want pair that will mate, we have Dwarf Flags that are a mated pair and they make me a nervous wreck. See next post.

Maybe another Severum? Sorry, I don't know much about what would go well other than maybe another severum.

I'm afraid that the angel would get kicked around a bit, maybe even killed. In any case, it's most likely he/she won't be happy.

The whole overstocking thing doesn't work very well with new world cichlids, at least I don't think. I think with another severum you'll be at your limit for a 55g anyway.

You can try a geophagus or gymnogeophagus species.

How about Nicaraguense? Any Thorichtys, Archocentrus, or Cryptoheros species will do fine...assuming your Severum is about 4".

go with the jurupari. i have a tank of juvenile sevrums, jurupari, and red bahia and they work fine together. i havnt had problems with the juruparis do ing anything to totally destraoy a tank. they just tend to poke around in the dirt a bit.

the only problems i could see are the bullying of the jurupari from the firemouths. the juruparis i have are the most peacefull cichlids i own. my firemouth allways pushes the jurupari arouns so if you get one, try and get one thats a bit larger than the firemouth. also if thats a pair of firemouths and they decide to spawn, they might go after your other fish.

Thank you all for your imput, I think maybe I will go with the Jurupari, I think they are so cool, my firemouths are only about 2 inches now, and we won't put them all together until each is able to hold their own. Thanks again.
