Well I have a 55 gallon tank. It was the previous home to two 12" oscars, but unfortunatley I had to give them away, they were just too big for my 55 and I couldnt afford to get a bigger tank. So now I have a 3-4" JD, a 5" pictus and two 8" plecos...I'm looking for something that is going to be as personable as the oscars were. They were a lot of fun, but I need something that is not going to get over 10"s. I've been looking at the orange pike at the LFS I work at and am possibly interested in him. I've also been checking out Jurapari's and firemouths. So my biggest concern is something that will not outgrow the 55 and wont eat my pictus. Any suggestions:D

I'd go with the Firemouth, The JD may not like it if he is already estabilished though. And the JD will outgrow the 55 someday as well. Firemouths top out around 7 inches. So they won't get too big like the Oscars did. The trick will be introducing whatever you get in with the JD. Some JD's are more wicked than others though so you might be OK if you don't have a particularly nasty JD.

I was doing some research on juriparies and firemouths and niether the juriparie or a firemouth will outgrow a 55gallon u would be with a 55gallon

if you go with the jurupari/firemouth combo try and get the jurupari at a slightly larger size than the firemouth. i bought myine at about the same sizes and the firemouth tore his fins for quite a while till he started getting bigger than the fire. also try and figure out if what your getting is a jurupari or some other satanaperca. ive got 2 differant "juruparis" and while they are the same shape they are not the same kind of fish. one is dark grey with a black streak while the other is silverish with shiney blue spots and streak all over his body. i figured out hes a leusoticta and is a much prettier fish.
blue acaras are also fine looking fairly peacefull fish that could hang out well with either the jurupari or the firemouth

I ended up getting 1 fire mouth, 1 convict and 1 orange pike cichlid to go along with the dempsey, pictus and plecos. Im thinking it'll work out nicely and everybody has settled in peacefully. So far so good *thumbs up*

i have the exact same setup as you a 55 g with a pike cichlid 1 firemouth 1 convict 1 jd a pleco and 2 lace cats and they all get along fine..

How big are your fish now. Im just wondering if i should expect problems as my fish get bigger. Because they are all relatively small at this point. Also what do you feed your pike? I fed them all earthworms yesterday and ive tried to feed them pellets but they wont come to the top to get them(all my fish). But as the pellets sank, they ate them. Any tips for me guys? thanks
