I need to write a persuasive essay on which is better a SW tank or a FW tank. Unfortunately I personally don't know. In this Essay I will need to use footnote(which is why I'm asking you.) If you could please explain which you think is better and why.
Thank You,

That question can only be answered by a subjective responce. There's no one reason that makes either freshwater tanks better than saltwater tanks and vise versa. It all comes down to personal preference.

I for one have both and I find I love my saltwater better because of the vibrate colors that the various enviroments offer. That's what lured me into saltwater to begin with.

I think its more like asking our valuable opinions but I agree about researching. The only way to effectiving write a persuasion essay is to research how each is maintained, look at tons of pictures of possible fresh and saltwater setups then decide which you would like better. Good luck

That is what I am doing but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask you guys.

i can see Mo's point on researching...how else will you learn anything?? but i also cant see being able to write a good report on this subject unless you have kept both. a little feedback cant hurt. i personally kept Malawi Cichlids for years, and prior to "going salty" i had no idea of the vast diffrence beetween the two. i would now say salt is wwaaay better and more interesting, due to the vibrant colors, and the massive array of different lifeforms you can keep. how long do you have to do it? maybe set up two nano tanks, one salt and one fresh, for a couple months (if you have the time/$$), and see which one YOU think is better.

Sorry about the crankiness above, and it's been removed. "Better" is just an odd question. Like pie vs ice cream. Comes down to what you want. I keep both, because FW and SW offer very different things. It's absolutely impossible to beat the diversity available in SW. I have all the major metazoan phyla in my SW tanks, most by accident. On the other hand, the ease of breeding and rearing FW fish is very satisfying. Talented aquarists can make beautiful displays with either one.

yeah its a hard question to think about but...

On one hand you have salt, lots of beautiful fish, coral, and other amazing creatures. But that doesnt come free, saltwater tanks can be very expensive, hundreds of dollars( Not all but alot). But for the price you get beutiful colors and a huge variety of fish. Plus you have to deal with salinity witch can be a pain at times.

On the other you have freshwater, most have cheap prices (most NOT all), easy maintnance, and plants are good prices to, but you will be stuck with plain looking fish ( not all are plain but most are). Plus the variety isnt to good until you get into cichlids.

either way i like them both, if i had the cash i would definately set up a salt tank with a grouper, trigger, or butterfly. But i would not stop with freshwater because there are some cool fish you can get like angels, discus, or cichlids. Id have to say that the pro's and con's equal the out, it all depends on time, money, and intrest!

considering you asked it to be one sided this probably wasnt what you wanted, but it may help you figure out what you like better...
