I've been at work all day and I can't help but browse the internet looking at different skimmers. I was originally going to go with a sump type setup but realized I couldn't because of a heater vent by my tank. I decided to go with a hang on style skimmer and found a couple I want to ask about.
The first one is the Prizm Pro Delux it says its rated for around 300 gallon, I think. The other is a Red Sea Turbo that is also a hang on style. Its rated at around 250 gallons. I am setting up a FOWLR tank and its 55 gallons. If these are junk or there's something better please let me know.

I run an AquaC Remora and I love it... Tested my nitrates a couple nights ago and, while I do intend to confirm this with a brand new test, my reading was <5ppm... The test didn't even change colors =)

Why would being near a heating vent matter?? I'm confused...

I think he was planning on setting up the sump and skimmer, and can't because the logical place to put them would cover a floor vent.

The Prizm will run fine on a smaller tank, but for something more than about 30 gallons, I'd go with a Ramora or better. Reliability is a big issue, and Prizm's just don't cut it on larger systems. Not syaing they're bad, just that they have alimited capacity, and it's well below their recommendations.

Orion, I believe the prism pro deluxe wishmaster is asking about is a different skimmer than the regular prism you are referring to. Although I have no personal experience with this skimmer, I have heard that it is much improved over the regular prism. In my opinion the prism pro deluxe would be more than enough for a 55 gal.
Wishmaster, I believe this skimmer goes for about $199.00 right?

Do you use that skimmer box with the Remora? IF so can you tell a difference with the addition of it or not?

Yeah I run it, and while it is EXTREMELY overpriced for what you get, it does a decent job... The bubble trap side clogs up too much for my liking, (it has a sponge in there I need to replace with sumthin more effective) but the surface skimming works great... Never an oil slick to be found...

I looked into the "super" prism, I cant recall the name of it, and the Remora when I was buying... Considered the CPR unit to.. The AquaC had better reviews, so I got it... I don't think yer gonna go wrong with any of em though =)

The sump would have covered my floor vent, the only one in my bedroom. Again the prizm delux is a diff. skimmer and its around 200. I think now after reading this I'll go with the remora with the skimmer box. Thanks RaVenCAD, slipknottin, BrianH, OrionGirl, and 99Redsi, I owe you all, wishmaster

Since you mentioned the Red Sea Berlin skimmer and nobody responded to that one, I will. It is also a very good skimmer. I have a number of them running on tanks at present. The turbo Berlin is by far the better choice. I would go with either the Remora or the Berlin turbo.
