i've had good luck with the small screw in Compact florescents, on small tanks. they are like a 15W bulb and i've got one over my 2.5G and the few plants in there grow like crazy, but that's also 6WPG.

well the ones i've seen are white / in the fish isle. i would try and find the Kelvin rating at 6700K to <10,000k range. but the ideal was something like 6700k to 8700k ????

I am probably missing the point here, because i am guessing by BULBS (not tubes) you just want something that can screw into a normal socket
But im going to mention these anyway because they ARE bulbs; and are probably THE BEST possible thing out there to grow with (however this may only be me trying to justify the cost to myself :) lol ) But as for bulbs for growing I don’t think you can beat Metal Halides… best bang for the buck, the most efficient per lumen/watt and they don’t need to be replaced for a LONG time…

Btw out of curiosity now AFTER I spent $1400 on lights for my 90 gal fresh planted tank would there have been a better option if I am trying to set up an insanely planted tank? I went with two 400watt Ushio 10K bulbs with Icecap Electronic ballasts… And I am running Co2 off a 20lbs bottle on a Milwaukee PH trigger. Then a diatom to scrub the algae; thinking about adding a UV for occasional use as well…

Ya I spent $1000 on a canopy with the bulbs, fans, pulse starters etc…
Then another $200x2 for the ballasts… and the stupid things didn’t even come assembles lol! I had to put them together!

MH for growing plants? LOL

Did you get a nice Shimmer effect??????

mwhahahahahhaha
