Once my tank has completed cycling (10G) I plan to stock it with a school of glowlight tetra (9) and some shrimp........... assuming that these are compatible with one another, what kind of shrimp is generally recommended for beginners? ghost? cherry? amano? Are there any tips to keeping shrimp alive (some of the posts I have read say they can be fragile)......... I read that ghost shrimp can become agressive at higher temperatures, what temp is it they become agressive? is that the same of all shrimp?

My water is soft and with a low pH......... plan to carry out about a 30% PWC, half a dozen fake plants in the tank with a couple of caves.

Thanks.

Any shrimp will require pretty good water. Cherrry shrimp are good, they tend to breed readily so you may only have to buy once, if you have enough cover to keep fry from being eaten and the filter doesn't get them.

Amano shrimp get larger and eat more algae than cherrys do, but they don't generally breed in home aquariums.

There are also species of filter feeding shrimp available, but they generally require somewhat larger tanks unless you feed them directly.

There are also dwarf crayfish that would probably be OK w/ sm. tetras.

Stay away from larger crays, crabs, macrobrachia (sp?) shrimp species... not good for sm. tetras.
