Hi I,ve got a betta in my 26litre tank in with him is a baby tylo snail who,ll be going in my community tank when she gets bigger, 3 mts babies for my sand & a Colombian snail who I put in to clean up after my betta. My problem is my Colombian isn't doing a good job he's lazy lol he won't clean up any dropped food. I also have baby apple snails which are in my bigger tank. Do you have any ideas which would work better for my betta? As he has started cleaning up after my snail & ends up bloated :)

Snails should never be considered as part as a cleanup crew like they are in SW. The majority create waste. The apple snail is perhaps the "dirtiest" and has the highest bio-load. Don't misunderstand that snails have their place but just not a good alternative for the maintenance you should be doing.

I clean my bettas tank every 3 days 40% partial change & vac, it was too only help my betta incase food was left on the substrate so it didn't foul his tank. My snails aren't just clean up crew I have all different breeds that are well cared for & well fed, including given calcium.

I think that from what you say, you have more than a casual interest in the snails. As far as eating waste food, almost any of them will do it but it is a trade-off. Considering the amount of care you give your betta I really don't think you have much to worry about. I would continue your maintenance routine as is, with a snail or two as added inhabitants. Some of those horned nerites are awesome-looking but breeding them requires a brackish tank for most of them.

Apple snails and Ramshorns show up in different colors from time to time on this forum and might be something to consider. As far as I know, both can reproduce in FW (and sometimes overwhelm you with all the progeny).

I have 2 apple's but was a bit concerned my betta could bother them? I have nerites so that's one think I could try.
