I saw my whiptail cat (rinelocaria sp.) today, he is so skinny! Most of the time he's down on the gravel but this morning he was up against the glass and I could see his belly was shrunken. I isolated him in a breeding net and put some pellets in there, tonight he'll have his own piece of zucchini. is there anything else i can do?

i assumed he was too shy to eat during the day and ate at night. Also, i was able to catch him and pick him up in my hand for transfer to the net - is that unusual? he was pretty chill at the LFS when i got him.

I have a royal whiptail and he really likes algae tablets. He isn't very shy though, he will push his way thru the other fish if there is something he wants in there. I have never tried to pick mine up, or even touch him for that matter, so I can't say if they normally allow that. I know mine also latches onto the driftwood in the tank quite frequently.

If you have trouble getting him to eat now that he's isolated a bit, try some garlic soaked foods. You can soak it yourself, or buy frozen garlic food ("Health guard" I think) at an LFS. Garlic flavored foods typically enhance appetite.
