My new filter is doing an awesome job at keeping my tank clean. but ive noticed it creates a whirlpool effect on the whole tank. any suggestions on how to slow it down? or is this not going to affect the fish? (will post image)

What kind/size of filter? Does it have a flow control? Is this an odd shaped tank, like a hex?

Maybe put some decor near the discharge to break up the flow pattern?

i have a 10g with 8 plattys in and my filter has the same effect,it doesnt seem to bother them,in fact i catch them swimming directly into the flow sometimes..if it bothers you, place some plants in front of the outlet to break down the stream of water.

You can also use a sponge filter media to slow down the current. Just stick it in the outflow area of your filter, and it should disperse the flow quite a bit. Plus, it's extra filtration.
