whitch is better: undergravel filters or power filters?

I run a canister filter right off one airlift tube on the UGF and a power head on the other airlift tube. And to clean under the UGF, I use a turkey baster and work it through the gravel and pump multiple squirts through the little slits in the UGF, you should see the stuff fly up the air lift tubes, its like a manual RUGF. Ill do a 1/4 section of the UGF b4 each water change.

As for the question, I like them both, they work well in conjunction. They say the UGF's are old technology, they are, and also tested throughly. They Work!

Just a point to clarify for anyone new to the hobby.
UGF's, cannisters, and power filters are all roughly the same age in technology. There have been less changes in the UGF simply because it's really hard to improve something so simple and functional. Canisters and power filters have had some changes but really no significant design changes, Just new configuarations for media and components. Otherwise their technology is just as ald as UGF.
Almost all of todays filter formats came into existance right around the time that submersable pumps, and sealed motors became standard.
