I've been treating the white cloud with melafix, pimafix, and maracyn and maracyn-two. however, no changes yet. the fin rot is a whitish/greyish color at the very outter edge of the fin. could this be caused by a fungus? the same fish had been treated for what I thought was a fungal problem (on his mouth).

should I try trisulfa? before I started treating the fish with maracyn and maracyn-two i did a 70 % water change for him. I'm lost as to what else I can do (salt isn't working either, numbers are normal).

Is he in a quarentine tank? How long have you done your treatments of each medication for?

actually, he is alone with one other white cloud in a 1 gallon. they've both been sick and i've been trying to nurse them back to health. it appears as though columnaris is the reason for their lapses in health (the smaller fish recently broke out with greyish, cottony attachments to his mouth).

i have been treating them both with melafix, pimafix, trisulfa (2 days), maracyn, maracyin-two (both for 3 days) and have been doing 30 percent water changes (every 3 days). i've also been using aqual salt and conditioner for the water (to repair fins).

Thats a lot of expensive medication for a fish that probaly cost you less than $1. It probably is Culumnaris that the fish has and is very hard to treat.
Have you tried salt bathing the fish or are you just adding salt to the tank.
A salt bath of 6.5 t/s of Aquarium salt to 5l of tank water in a bucket might
do the trick. leave the fish n the water for around 15 minutes. If he goes
sideways than remove him straight away.

1 gallon tank? If it is fin rot then I would scrap all the meds and just start doing fresh water changes, 50% every day. Soak food in garlic to increase their desire to eat it and get them stronger that way. All those meds are probably causing havock on their systems.

I can do that, but the fin rot seems to have been brought on by columnaris because both of them had it at one point and i've initially been treating them for that, then the fin rot sort of came about.

the little fish had signs of columnaris only 2 days ago.

im doing water changes every 2-3 days. i'm pretty upset about this, just because i feel bad for them. i even bought a new tank and everything (6.6 gallon) hoping that I would be able to get a new set of fish to add to the mix. at least its giving me cycling time.

so, it's been a week now, and the fish seem to be gettin better maybe? the one little fish who had columnaris looks better and is regrowing fins that I never thought he even had. i got him in pretty bad shape and i always thought there was something wrong with him that couldn't be corrected. he had to rely on his tail a lot to swim around and always had trouble staying afloat, but since i used the antibiotics, he actually looks like hes regenerating, gaining color and swimming better.

the big fish (who, at one point had columnaris at his mouth, i believe) had fin rot, but it seems like its subsided in regards to spreading. the tips of his fins still look a bit ragged and seem to be going from a greyish white, to a more grey color that doesn't shine as much when in the light.

hopefully, they're getting better now. i've been taking everyone's recommendations (particularly water changes and salt) but i've still been using the meds. i think today stands as the last day ill use them though. i'll do a big water change tomorrow and maybe use only melafix and pimaflix for a 3-4 day stretch.

then, hopefully, i can move them to the bigger tank (there are no other fish, its been cycling). any thoughts if this is a good idea, if the little fish could actually regenerate even after a few months, or on anything else (the big fish, fin rot), please feel free to help me out. thanks!
