Hey guys, quick question. I have been reading up on the White Cloud Minnow as I am thinking of adding a school. However, there seems to be varying opinions on the temp required for them.

I found them in one of my LFS in a tank that was about 77-78F. I was under the impression that they were a cool water fish? However, when I asked the owner he said that they had been keeping them in there with no problems at all for as long as he had owned the shop. So, does anyone own these fish in a tropical setting(76-80F) and if so, have you noticed any problems?

Note the species I am referring to is not the Golden White Cloud, but the standard red and silver minnow.

i have heard that they can live with or without a heater

EMG, define heated for me. 76? 77? What? =) Thanks in advance.

white clouds will be fine anywhere between 66f - 80f as long as it is done slowly over time. Their ideal temp is around 70F. Golden white clouds, long fin whiteclouds, and regular whiteclouds all have the same req and are all very hardy and peaceful.

So you can pretty much add them to any tropical tank. i would still keep a heater though just to keep the temp constant if able.

Like all cooler water fish they thrive in water that is highly oxygenated, so good air excahnge will make them happy. They also relish a fast current.

I have kept mine at 68F for a long time and I currently keep them at around 72F (room temp). I have personally found that the cooler the water the more exciting of a fish they are, their colours get brighter and they spend a lot of time competeing with each other.

Get a min of 5 and realize that they get much bigger than in the store. They will easily get double the size of a neon tetra.

i have some in one of my tanks the temp is about 79-80 they have been in there for about 4 months now and are doing great.
