hi all, in my new 55 gallon tank, white fuz grows on anything left in the tank, 2 panda cory's just died from it, but a shrimp pellet dropped in the tank will grow this fuzz in about 3 hours.
in my fry tank the extra food will get some, but this 55 is driving me nuts.the tanks about 2 weeks old, fully cycled and all water params are normal.
the 2 cory's were nipped by some guppy fry, and then got this fuzz all over them, then had trouble swimming.i had melafix in the water for the last couple of days.all other fish are doing great, even my other cory's.should i add an antibiotic to the tank to help control this, or stop feeding for a couple of days.
this tank has sand, and there's not alot of stuff on the substraight, so the fish aren't getting overfed.
thanks all

hmmm?

2 weeks old and fully cycled?

Not gonna happen :) Takes at least a month, and up to 3 months for a tank to become fully established, no matter what the fish store tells you (or sells you)...

Could you list your parameters here, even if you say they are normal? Every bit of information helps us to determine what the problem could be :) Temperature, ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates....that sorta thing.

The fuzz sounds like a fungus. How quickly does it develop on the fish after they have a damaged fin? You say it comes up on food after just a few hours, but don't mention the time on a moving object :)

With a bit more information about the specifics, it will be easier to tell what is going on, but it does sound much like a fungal thing. I'll let one of the experts on diseases handle telling you about treatment, I'm just here to badger you for more information :)

the cory was fine the night before when i saw him out of a cave, fin was a little ruffled but not bad.
so less than 24 hours.the tank was set up using everything from 2 10 gallons tanks that were cycled, used most of the gravel, plants, ornaments.even took the live plants.lol
i went through a minicycle, but params never got in the unsafe range.
temp is 80, ph is 7.5
only test kit i have is ph(others expired)but my lfs tests the water everytime i go in.
the cory died last night, 2 panda's in 2 days.i added some primafix to go with the metafix.and picked up 2 more cory's(my others were lonely)
thanks

ah, you didn't specify that this was a combining project :)

Hmmm... it still sounds very much like a fungal infection to me...

the illness gurus will be able to help out better with treatment, but I can take this time to say that this might not have been the optimum time to add new fish to your aquarium... until you find out what your problem is and how long/involved the treatment process will be for it....

just my opinion.

I have never had a fungal issue in my tank so I have no idea what to do for it. <goes to research, will post more later>
