 hi, i'm a new fish owner and i just noticed some white spaghetti looking stuff growing in a patch on my rocks. i've read a few threads on this website but i really have no idea what everyone is talking about. i wonder if anyone can tell me what it is and if it's bad for my fish. i just recently had almost all of my fish die, was it from that funny stuff on the bottom? do i need to get rid of it? if so, how do i get rid of it? i would really appreciate anyone's help. thanks!

Need more info really, like tank size, the fish in it, have you cycled, and water paremeters(ammonia, nitrate and ite, etc.) All this is important in determining the cause of your fishes deaths. Also the spagetti could be lots of stuff, most likely harmless but need to know other info first. Welcome!!

well, the tank size is 10 gallon. We had neon tetras, the catfish-like algea eaters, 2 black and white spotted fish and 2 red spotted fish (these were compatiable with the other fish, atleast Wal-mart said they were compatiable), and 6 other kind of tetras (they are transparent and they're fins are red). all the other fish died but the group of 6 and the algea eaters. I thought maybe they were sick when we got them from wal-mart but then i noticed the white spaghetti stuff in the tank. i don't believe that the stuff showed up until about a week or two after the fish died. my husband thought the tank might have gotten contaminated but i don't understand how. i haven't changed the water since the fishes all died. is my tank suffering becaude i'm not spending enough time on it? i'm sorry i don't know the water parameters or what cycling the water is so... i hope i have given you a little more info. thanks for your help!!!
