My female rosy barbs have a white spot on the back of their dorsal fins (all 3 of them at the same place). This is absent on the males. Is this normal?
Well I figured out what this white spot is when I looked at another fish. My Rosy Barbs brought in ICH!!! I hate when your QT tank breaks down and you are forced to transfer them to the main tank only to notice an ich infection later on. Up goes the thermostat and in goes the treatment grrrr.
Maybe it's just coincidence, but it does seem like there's an AWFUL lot of ich going around right now. Do you suppose the weather has something to do with it, perhaps lowering the resistence of fish during shipping?
Not sure if its the weather or has ich just taken a foothold in wholesaler tanks. My fish wholesaler uses a filtration system much like your public aquarium. I don't like how all the water in his tanks mix in the filter but nobody can beat his prices ($2 per Rosy Barb vs $6 at the LFS). That is why I just QT the fish in a 0.3% salt solution to whack any ich that I might introduce. Works well until the QT tank breaks down ...
