hi everyone..earlier today i performed a full water change, doing the usual, adding dechlorinators and cleaning all the decorations, gravel clean..everything seemed fine, clear water, happy active fish, until about 20 mins ago..a white stringy stuff has just appeared on pretty much all the decorations,it looks almost like a spiders web??? i have an established tank(8 months)with 1 chinese algae eater,6 adult female plattys and 6 baby plattys..any ideas folks,i cant find any info on anything remotely similar!!!!! soz for the long thread...

i cant see it being a type of fungus,if that was the case it would surely appear over a course of time and not in the space of half an hour...i wait to be corrected..

no sand, just a regular coloured gravel..ashamed to admit but ive been so busy the last couple of weeks ive left the maintenance go a bit..3 weeks since my last partial water change..although that really shouldnt cause that much of a problem i dont think.

hmm...mulm is the yucky stuff that accumulates in the bottom of your filter. If you changed the filter cartirdge, or shut your filter down during maintenance, when you turned it back on, it would flush out the yucky stuff that was in there into the tank...

Sounds very feezible this could be what you see. When you swish the water does it stir the stuff into the water column?
