I don’t get it—why is AC such a quiet forum? MFK seems way more active. I mean no offense, but what’s the reason for this?
But you guys have a active admin, Rbishop . While our one and only active admin Chicxulub has retired, while the other admins have been inactive. We also have only two to four mods who are active, but this hasn't led to MFK's downfall.Reasons.. I guess
Personally I seldom feel like I want to answer anything . And it's been forever since I cared to post anything new.
Moderator presence has dwindled, new folks see the lack of activity and move on after not getting immediate answers to their problems.
It also depends what point in time you are comparing to too.. stuff like Facebook and YouTube happened since I joined. I don't do YouTube, but Facebook can be kind of useful when you know where to look and the folks that can be trusted to have good advice .
As for MFK vs AC.. there was a significant change in the 2000s when MFK bought AC and then merged then together . Both were pretty different groups and a lot of the established members here left and never returned except to maybe look in every few years.
I assume you are free to drum up excitement. But I imagine you are more likely to do so with journals and examples of what you are doing rather than asking specific questions. The more specific, the less likely there will someone experienced to answer
I’m mostly active on MFK, but I also want Aquaria Central to thrive again. I’ll be starting a thread about my 45-gallon tank soon as a positive contribution. Hopefully, this encourages others to share their experiences too!Moderator and Admin presence has dwindled because of activity and membership decline. Those that are here keep it tidy and marching forward.
For what ever reason long term members jump in on "why is AC dead" threads, but yet not post new content. New content is what is going to keep it alive.
Don't leave it all up to D dougall
I'm kidding.. (mostly)
While MFK is known for monster fishkeeping, there are quite a few members who keep smaller fish, not just monsters. To be honest, the number of monster fish keepers has decreased over time, and there are a lot of cichlid experts, including those who specialize in smaller species. I know several of these members myself.I do wish AC had more traffic but not at the expensive of more noise. However the traffic level is so low i only check occasionally what is 'new'. I do tend to check MFK at the time of AC but MFK generally hold less interest; while I have a pair of monster aquariums and a few larger fishes - mostly some young chocolate and geo dicrozoster most of my inexperience activity is around dwarf cichild (wc species not commonly found in stores). This of course also means i'm not likely to find many people with experience with them
