water perameters are all fine and my temp is at 70 degress. my 3 gold inca mystery snails have been in the same spot for the last couple of days and sit there all day with their door open a little crack. when i touch them they slowly close up into their shells again. they are about 2 weeks new into my tank but were very active the first couple of days and then just kind of went dormant. why are they doing this? are they just dying?

Is the crayfish bugging them? The snails are known for closing up to 'think' a while, but mine usually only do this for a day or two. Are you target feeding them?

When I had snails behave this way it was due to metals in the water. Invertebrates are very sensitive to metals, especially copper.

Have you been able to keep other inverts before?

Do you temp match when doing water changes? Sometimes (as was the case at my old house) metal from the pipes/hot water tank leeches into the water while its in the plumbing. Using hot water to temp match your tank expels that metal into your water change bucket and then your tank. After recognizing this as my possible problem I starting using only cold water for changes. I would let the water run a couple of minutes (in the hopes of clearing out the water that had been sitting in the pipes) then fill my buckets. I'd let the buckets sit for a couple of days to get to room temp and then do my changes.

After changing to that regimen I stopped losing inverts.

You could have another problem but that just my experience.

Hmmm, I seem to be having the same problem with Malasian Trumpet Snail staying encased all day (and night?). I understand them to be nocturnal, but even when the lights go out...

Maybe I'm dosing too many traces.

??? Is there a barrier between them? The crays are primarily nocturnal, so you wouldn't see much interaction during the daytime.
