Hello and thanks in advance. Can anybody tell me why all six of my tiger barbs turn pale at night. In the morning they are back to normal. Is this ok or are my fish stressed? Thanks

It may be stress, I found that my Groumis were doing this, I built a moon light system and put it in and it does not happen any more. They are also more active during the day. My fish did this for over a year before I learned about the moon lights so it did not kill them.

ALL fish turn pale when the light goes out. the light triggers them to brighten up again. there is nothing wrong with this, its not stress, its totally natural and normal and you don't have to do anything special.

Thanks for the info. This site is the best one in my opinion. I had tanks for years, however it's been a while. I feel much better...Thanks!!

Yet another reason why someone should do an article on how and why fish change color...lol

I certainly do not disagree with the premise that the barbs changing color is normal. Or that many fish do this. During the day fish ca use color to communicate ad recognize others of there kind, but at night colors are less helpful and many point out fish to predators. However, I am not sure that I agree that it happens to all fish. Do you have ay good info on this Chick? Sorry if I sound sooty or something, just curious. :read:
