Just a reminder to people. This past week, I picked up 6 platies for my tank. One of them died within a few hours. Removed him, all's been well. Yesterday, I realised that one of them wasn't looking all that great. Her fins were clamped and her back tail looked like it had been eaten. I'm guessing it was fin rot. Because she was already in the quarantine tank, and I didn't want to lose all of my platies, I put her out of her misery instead of nursing her back to health. Please dont' judge me, what's done is done. I'd rather sacrifice one sick one than lose four healthy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossing that the other 4 won't catch her illness. Hopefully, they can join the rest of my fish in a week. Just a reminder of why it isn't a good idea to stick strange fish in your tank.

thanks for that reminder...some of us get too anxoius for the fish to be in the main tank, so we skip quarentine, or don't guarentine as long as we should. (not guilty of that, personally)

this is also a good incentive for those of us that do not have QT tanks to get one set up. I have had my 55 gallon for 2 months, and am battling ick from one of my more recent additions because I do not have a QT Tank set up yet. Been battling for a week now, thankfully, no fatalities yet (keeping my fingers crossed)

i've never quarentined before, but i just got some blue tetras from petsmart and set up a rubbermaid bin to QT them in for 3-4 weeks because, well, its petsmart! o_O

yep, these guys were from petsmart, I haven't bought fish them them in years. But the good store closeddown.

I never quarantined until I had an ich outbreak from new fish. I had to treat a fully planted display tank, and was not happy about it. Now, EVERY FISH goes in qt and every plant gets a bleach dip. So everyone...don't wait and learn from your own mistake--learn from ours. Use quarantine!
