I don't know about monkeys in clothes, but I do have two little hairless chinese crested dogs that sometimes wear clothes for protection and warmth. In the summertime they are susceptible to severe sunburns, so during the day if they are outside in the yard, they wear something to help cover their skin and prevent sunburns (they also wear sunscreen on occasion, though they tend to try to lick that off, so clothes work better). In the winter, they get very cold with no fur to protect them, so they wear warm clothes when we go outside in the winter to help keep them from freezing during potty breaks. ^awww, they wear clothes for a good reason....but now that i think about it most monkeys would suffer in northern winter weather.

I can see monkeys wearing something on their bottoms to keep the poop and pee off the furniture or their owners. Keeping warm in winter. But thats it. I think folks just try to 'humanize' them and the clothing makes it much easier for them to subconsciously think 'person' when they look at them.
im still on the fence about monkeys and diapers, if you dont want it to crap on your furniture the dont own a monkey or keep it outside. i think with perserverance a monkey could be potty trained, but a baby monkey would need a diaper before the training could start
