Wierd behaviour

Jack, my Jack Dempsey (I have no imagination when it comes to names!), started doing something wierd this evening. I use a gravel thats about 1/4-3/8 inch in diameterfot the substrate. Jack was picking up a piece in his mouth, moving it 2-3 inches and repeating.

No set pattern, no nest building I can see (after all he's male (I think) and no females in tank)

Boredom? Or trying to drive his Human friend nuts? (Short trip!)

Very normal aar. I've observed a jellybean parrot of mine do this continuosly.. sometimes it wa sin an effort to build a nest and other times it seemed like it just gave him something to do. It's funny to watch- they're really cute sometimes.

its normal my managuenses do this all the time its to establish territory and/or building a nest. my red devil that i used to hav did that all the time dont worry its normal behavior.

my red devil does this too.... it will turn a flat surface of pebbles into 1 part mountain and 1 part bare glass... it stuffs its mouth with pebbles then spits into one specific corner until a mountain of pebbles emerges from the accumulating pebbles...

ive seen oscars and flower horns do this as well so it might be common for some cichlids
