I have no room in my tank now for the bunch of baby amazon swords I have. I was thinking about taking them out of the tank and planting them in dirt. Will they grow, or are they strictly aquatic plants?

What I have read about amazons suggests not...

Anubias can actually grow better in an emersed situation, leaves out of the water, but I've always seen swords refered to as "true aquatics" meaning they must be submerged at all times. I do not have actual experience with these things, but that is the general consensus from all the books and webpages I have read on the topic.

Hope this helps,

Get a new tank? Give them to me :)?

I tried to grow a sword in a pot emersed in a pond. It just died, never put up emersed growth to replace the aquatic growth. Could be my brown thumb however...

Emmersed is different from what I understand NJDF to be asking. Swords will not grow potted like a common house plant. They will grow with leaves above, but the roots in water.
